Avoid summaries such as “creative, results-driven marketer passionate about communication”: without facts, they say nothing about your level.

Marketing manager skills by area

Highlight the skills you have used in recent roles. The third column shows how to turn each one into a CV line.

Tools: show how you use them

  • HubSpot, Salesforce or another CRM: describe your use, for example “segmentation, workflows, nurturing, lead scoring and reporting”, rather than “HubSpot: expert”.
  • Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Meta Ads: give the budget managed and the KPIs followed. If an agency runs the campaigns, say that you managed them.
  • Google Analytics, Power BI: say what you analysed or built (traffic sources, conversion, dashboards).
  • AI tools: mention them if you use them, with their real role, for example “generative AI tools for research, ideation and content variants, with systematic human review”. Avoid “AI expert” if your use is limited to general assistants.
  • Certifications (Google, HubSpot): list them if they are recent and relevant; they do not replace experience with a real budget.

Experience and achievements

A simple structure for each line

Describe your work in this order: context → your own action → channel or method → scope or budget → result. Separate strategy from execution and say which you owned.

Too vague

Lead generation and social media management.

Informative

Ran lead generation for a B2B software offer with a [X] annual budget: content, webinars, Google Ads and LinkedIn Ads, with nurturing in HubSpot; generated [X] MQLs in a year and reduced cost per lead by [X]%.

Achievement examples to adapt

Replace [X] and [Y] with your own figures, and use only the metrics your organisation actually tracks:

  • Managed an annual marketing budget of [X], split between acquisition, content, events and partners.
  • Generated [X] leads and [X] MQLs a year; [X] of pipeline attributed to marketing according to the company’s attribution model.
  • Reduced cost per lead by [X]% in [N] months by reworking targeting and creating dedicated landing pages.
  • Improved landing page conversion from [X]% to [Y]% after A/B tests on forms and messages.
  • Grew organic traffic by [X]% in [N] months with an SEO and content programme.
  • Ran [N] trade shows a year, with pre-event meeting campaigns and post-event lead follow-up.

Link audience metrics to business results. “+50% LinkedIn impressions” says little on its own; “+50% LinkedIn impressions, [X] leads and [N] opportunities attributed to the campaigns” is far stronger. Only claim pipeline or revenue contribution if your company has a clear attribution method.

Education and qualifications

Marketing managers come from business schools, marketing or communication degrees, digital marketing or data courses, and sometimes from engineering with a business specialism. Use the format degree – specialism – institution – year:

[Degree] – [specialism]
[Institution] — [year]

  • Experienced managers: recent results usually carry more weight than education.
  • Languages: be specific, for example “English C1: international campaigns, agency management and group meetings” rather than “fluent English”.

ATS readability and tailoring

Make your CV easy to read for ATS and recruiters

Many employers use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to store and search applications. The aim is not to “beat” software, but to make your scope easy to identify:

  • use standard headings: Professional summary, Key figures, Experience, Skills, Education, Tools and languages;
  • keep key information as real text in a readable layout;
  • use the terms that match your work: marketing manager, B2B or B2C, demand generation, acquisition, CRM, SEO, SEA, marketing automation, analytics, budget, team management.

Marketing Manager – B2B SaaS – acquisition, HubSpot, SEO and pipeline generation is far clearer than 360° marketer when the posting is specialised.

Tailor your CV to each job

Adjust your title, summary, key figures, campaigns and tools to the posting, without inventing a skill.

First marketing manager role or career change

If you are applying for your first manager role, keep your real past titles (marketing executive, marketing project manager, marketing specialist) and show the responsibilities that prove you are ready:

  • a budget you managed on your own;
  • campaigns you ran from brief to results;
  • agencies or freelancers you coordinated;
  • reporting to management;
  • cross-team projects with sales or product.

Ran a [X] acquisition budget on my own · coordinated two agencies · presented monthly results to management.

Moving towards a head of marketing role works the same way: do not change past titles, show that your real scope has already widened (strategy, budget, managers, executive reporting).

Trained or working in France?

If your marketing background is French, a few adjustments make your CV clearer to English-speaking recruiters.

French qualifications

Keep the French name and add a short explanation, without claiming an equivalence with British, American or other degrees:

  • École de commerce: a French business school; give the programme and specialism.
  • Master: keep the French name of the specialism and add a short translation, for example “digital marketing”.
  • Diplôme d’ingénieur: a French engineering degree; add the business specialism if you have one.

[French programme name] – [specialism] ([short English description])
[School] — [year]

French job titles and terms

Translate the role, not the words. A “responsable marketing” is a marketing manager; a “chargé(e) de marketing” is usually a marketing executive or marketing officer; a “chef de projet marketing” can be a marketing project manager or campaign manager, depending on the scope. Write amounts in an international format (“€450k” rather than “450 k€”), and replace “CA” with revenue.

Mistakes to avoid and final checklist

Listing every channel without priorities

Bring forward the channels you actually master.

Giving no results

Marketing lends itself to measurement: give the metrics you tracked.

Showing only traffic and impressions

Link them to leads, opportunities or sales where possible.

Leaving out the budget

It shows your level of responsibility.

Not saying B2B or B2C

Methods and KPIs can be very different.

Listing tools without saying how you use them

HubSpot, Salesforce or Google Analytics need context.

Claiming revenue impact you cannot support

Use the attribution method your company actually applies.

Checklist before you apply

  • The title states your market, sector or main channels.

  • Audience metrics are linked to business results where possible.
  • Tools are described by their use.
  • Every figure is accurate and can be explained in an interview.
  • The CV has been adjusted to the posting.

CVReader sample: marketing manager CVs and job postings in France

In the extraction of 13 October 2026, CVReader identified 139 marketing manager profiles among recently analysed CVs, and 175 marketing manager postings among recent France Travail postings. This is a French sample, not a measure of the UK, US or global market.

How to read these figures

  • CVs: profiles analysed by CVReader in the 3 months before the extraction.
  • Postings: France Travail postings from the 30 days before the extraction.
  • The periods differ on purpose: a CV from a few weeks or months ago can still be used to apply to a recently published posting.
  • These figures do not describe all candidates or all vacancies in France. They should not be read as a number of postings per candidate, a shortage, a level of competition or a likelihood of being hired.

CVReader methodology. Aggregated data. Each CV is assigned to a single occupation, based on the match estimated by CVReader; only profiles with a sufficient match are included in the figures shown. Figures come from an extraction supplied to CVReader and are not updated in real time. Extraction date: 13 October 2026. CVs: profiles analysed in the 3 months before the extraction. Postings: France Travail, in the 30 days before the extraction. Occupation: ROME M1705 – Responsable marketing (ROME is the French public employment service’s occupation classification).
